Why? Because of what I hear from people in this city everyday. Whether it’s concerns about the economy, the environment or our democracy, it’s clear that we can do far better. And it’s clear that we need a change in politics to help define a new vision for what Canada can be.
That vision starts right here in Waterloo.
I’ve spent a decade here. First as a student at Wilfrid Laurier University, and now as a father, husband, volunteer and small business owner. My wife and I moved back to Waterloo because this city is a great example of what Canada can be. And with the right leadership we can export the spirit of Waterloo to help define a vision for Canada as the most innovative, sustainable and caring country in the world.
That’s what this election is about. And that’s why I want to work for you to make it happen.
I believe that the vision shared by the Liberal Party puts us on the right path towards the Canada we deserve. We need new ideas on the economy, environment, childcare and how we treat veterans and tackle crime. We need leaders who understand and focus on evidence and research. And we need a government that re-engages with Canadians to set an agenda on these issues that reflects what you and I think and care about. That’s what the Liberal Party will do, and that’s why I want to be part of this team.
I’m not blind to the fact that many have developed a distaste for politics in recent years. But I’ve never met a more engaging and earnest leader than Justin Trudeau. He’s opened a window to re-engage Canadians in defining our future. That’s why my family and I have made this decision. I hope you’ll join us.
Let’s get to work.
